INTERNATIONAL ALTRUISM FESTIVAL 2014, PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO
Event Details: The 10th Annual International Altruism Festival was held on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the gorgeous Marriott CasaMagna Resort in the Marina Vallarta neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where the event was co-hosted by American Consular Agent Kelly Trainor. Tickets to this event were $350 pesos in advance or a donation of $450 pesos at the door. The price of the ticket included all food, drinks and entertainment. All proceeds generated from the ticket sales were divided between 20 local charities. Each charity also had on-site raffle ticket sales that increased the funds earned during the festival. The numerous items raffled off were very generous, and this portion of the evening was also well organized. Entertainment included music and a wonderful cultural performance by the very talented dancers and professional acrobats from Vallarta Adventures. A Canadian scouting troupe also performed a sweet little dance for the crowd.
The food portions given out by each restaurant were huge. At the various food festivals we’ve been to in California, most of the restaurants serve very small-sized portions. But not at the Altruism Festival in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! And if the restaurant had a few different food selections at their booth, you were served a generous sample of each. As there was just so much awesome gourmet food to try, early on my husband and I decided it was best to share one sample plate from each booth just so we could leave room to try more of the festival’s yummy offerings.
The participating restaurants and beverage suppliers included: Barcelona Tapas, Kaiser Maximilian, River Cafe, La Palapa, La Leche, Bebidas Vallarta Clamato, Porto Bello, Café des Artistes, Pie in the Sky, Helados Buonissimo, Charme Reposteria, Daiquiri Dick’s, Co-Exist Bistro, De Chile, Mole & Pozole, No Way Jose!, Eventos Marriott, The Four Seasons – Aramara, Jude Bistro, India Gate, Las Casitas, Nicksan, Los Arroyos Verdes, Los Chatos Pasteleria, MantaMar Beach Club Bar & Grill, El Arrayan, Mikado, Nopalitos, Fredy’s Tucan, PV Event Group, Holiday Inn – Piaceres, and Rockstar.
Each of the 20 charity organizations hosted an information booth at the festival. The chosen charities for 2014 included: Banco de Alimentos (the Puerto Vallarta Food Bank), DIF, Los Mangos Library, Fundacion Down (an organization that cares for children with Downs Syndrome), Biblioteca Rey Nayar, International Friendship Club, Casa Hogar Maximo Cornejo (the Puerto Vallarta Orphanage & Children’s Home), Manos de Amor (the Orphanage in Bucerias), Clínica de Rehab Sta. Barbara, Pasito de Luz, The Rotary Club of PV, Paraiso Felino (the cat shelter), Desayunos para Niños PV (Breakfast for the Children), PV Navy League, Ejercito de Salvación (The Salvation Army), Refugio Sta. Esperanza, Entre Amigos San Pancho, Scouts de Mexico, Ecología y Conservación de Ballenas, SETAC.
Hands down, this huge and expertly-run food event was the best we’ve ever attended. It was simply spectacular, as was its outdoor beachfront location. After a gorgeous sunset over the ocean, the whole festival was blanketed in gentle, romantic ambiance. The fabulous evening concluded with a glittery fireworks display on the beach.
